Analyst Note

Matthews International Capital Management recently announced the 2023 distribution estimates for its 13 mutual funds, and only two of them are expected to make significant distributions this year. Matthews Emerging Markets Small Companies MISMX is expected to distribute roughly 8.5% of its net asset value as of Nov. 16, and Matthews Emerging Markets Sustainable Future MISFX is expected to distribute roughly 7.6% of its net asset value. Meanwhile, four of the firm’s other mutual funds are expected to make distributions of approximately 2% to 3% of their net asset values, including Matthews India MIDNX and Matthews Pacific Tiger MIPTX. And the firm’s seven other mutual funds are expected to make distributions of roughly 1.4% or less of their net asset values, including Matthews Japan MIJFX, which isn’t expected to make a distribution. These estimates are subject to change, of course, while the record date for the distributions is Dec. 13 and the details can be found on the Matthews website.
