Mike Viola

Mike Viola is an associate manager research analyst, fixed-income strategies, for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc.

Before assuming his current role in 2019, Viola was a data content researcher at Morningstar, specializing in environmental, social, and governance data and closed-end funds. Prior to that, he maintained data and methodology for Morningstar's Brazilian and Chilean fund databases.

Viola holds a bachelor's degree in political science and Near Eastern languages and civilizations, with a specialization in ancient Egypt, from the University of Chicago. He has completed the Level I exam of the Chartered Financial Analyst® program.

How we make money

We sell different types of products and services to both investment professionals and individual investors. These products and services are usually sold through license agreements or subscriptions. Our investment management business generates asset-based fees, which are calculated as a percentage of assets under management. We also sell both admissions and sponsorship packages for our investment conferences and advertising on our websites and newsletters.

How we approach editorial content
