Tom Whitelaw

Tom Whitelaw is director of equity ratings for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He oversees the global research process for the manager research team’s equity fund coverage universe. He is also a permanent voting member of the Morningstar Global Analyst Ratings Committee.

Before assuming his current role in Chicago, Whitelaw led Morningstar’s Australasian manager research team in Sydney. He chaired the Australasian ratings committee and monitored the manager review process and production schedule. He also undertook qualitative research on Australian and New Zealand investment managers and their strategies.

Whitelaw joined Morningstar in the United Kingdom in 2007, spending three years researching funds before moving to Australia. Before joining Morningstar, he was a fund analyst for Aviva, where he was responsible for fund selection across the group’s life, pension, and collective investment platforms. Before that, he worked at Pearson Jones, where he prepared and maintained recommended fund lists for the firm’s independent financial advisers.

Whitelaw has a bachelor’s degree with first class honors in business and finance from Sheffield Hallam University. He also holds the United Kingdom Society of Investment Professionals Investment Management Certificate.
