Amid the volatility of world markets, Templeton Global Smaller Companies Fund's (TEMGX) bargain-hunting style has helped it contain losses--sort of.

The fund's value orientation keeps it out of the high-flying, fast-growing names that have caused many of its rivals in the world-stock group serious woe. That has propped up performance in chaotic 2001.
