Sustainable mutual funds--which are also called ESG (environmental, social, governance) funds--have been soaring in popularity. In 2019, the group is on pace to have its best year ever in terms of asset growth, with $13.5 billion flowing into the group in 2019 through September. That comes on the heels of exceptionally strong inflows in 2018, as well, when ESG funds gathered a then-record $5.5 billion in new money. es
Interest in ESG investing comes from investors of all ages, but younger investors appear to have a particular affinity for investing in line with their personal principles. According to Morgan Stanley research, 86% of millennials (people born between the early 1980s and 2000) say they are interested in incorporating ESG principles into their investment portfolios.
