The Week Ahead: Earnings From Johnson & Johnson, Verizon, JPMorgan

The new earnings season kicks off with names from a variety of sectors.

We are gearing up as third-quarter earnings season comes into full swing.

The week begins with earnings announcements from United Airlines UAL and Charles Schwab SCHW on Monday. On Tuesday, healthcare giant Johnson & Johnson JNJ will report. Our analyst expects the $8 billion ruling against Johnson & Johnson regarding side effects to neuroscience Risperdal to fall significantly on appeal. Analysts do not believe that the overall legal challenge poses a major threat to Johnson & Johnson’s Morningstar Economic Moat Rating of wide.

Narrow-moat communication services giant Verizon VZ reports on Thursday. The firm posted solid results during the second quarter. Major tobacco player Philip Morris PM reports on Thursday as well.

Numerous big names in financial services--including JPMorgan Chase JPM, Bank of America BAC, BlackRock BLK, Goldman Sachs GS, and Citigroup C--are all slated to report next week.

In the economic reporting front, the Federal Reserve releases its commentary on current economic conditions in the Beige Book on Wednesday. September’s retail sales figures release on the same day.

The market is anticipating an easing of trade war tensions; the new round of negotiations began last week, and President Donald Trump signaled that this round of talks has been going well.
