The Week Ahead: Amazon, Microsoft, Alphabet Lead Earnings

Jeremy Glaser: It's a busy week for earnings. Amazon just announced that it has surpassed 100 million Prime members, and their earnings on Thursday will be closely watched.

Microsoft, also due on Thursday, has been on a roll recently as its cloud business has been growing at a nice clip, while legacy businesses continue to hold their own. Google parent Alphabet will also report as will Intel. The prospect of escalating trade tensions with China has put both Boeing and Caterpillar in the spotlight over the last few months. Both will release results this week.

Some consumer-focused firms from Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Chipotle, and Starbucks are on tap. Other earnings include oil majors Exxon Mobil and Chevron; Viacom and Comcast; Visa; and General Motors.

In data, the first reading of first-quarter GDP is the marquee event with some housing data and durable goods orders rounding out the week.

Stay tuned for our rake on these stories.
