Morningstar Market Roundup: Week through 11/10/00
Election uncertainty, slower corporate growth hit stocks.
Ongoing concerns over the effect of a slowing economy on corporate growth combined with uncertainty over the results of the presidential election to push stocks down for the week.
Investors focused on slower demand and sales growth from Cisco Systems (CSCO) and Dell Computer (DELL) rather than the strong profits they reported. That brought down other technology stocks. In the online retail business, the demise of Pets.com (IPET) and MotherNature.com (MTHR), layoffs at a unit of eBay (EBAY), and an executive's resignation from Priceline.com (PCLN) dampened the outlook for the industry.
