The Week Ahead: Apple Earnings Lead the Way

Jeremy Glaser: Welcome to The Week Ahead. Apple reports on Tuesday. Investors are interested in the results, but the real focus seems to be on the launch of the next-generation iPhone, which the market has high hopes for.

Pfizer also will release results on Tuesday amid uncertainty around the future of healthcare in the U.S. and as the firm grapples with patent losses.

We will hear from some of the packaged food firms like Mondelez and Kellogg during the week, as the industry looks to continue to cut costs and fight against the rise of private-label products.

Tesla's earnings come ahead of the launch of their more affordable Model 3 sedan. Other reports this week include BP, Sprint, Viacom, Cigna, and Yum Brands.

There is plenty of economic data, too, as August kicks off. Friday's jobs report from July comes after June's better than expected numbers. Beyond just the number of jobs added, the pace of wage growth will be closely eyed.

Tuesday's personal consumption data is also a key release, not only to see how wide consumers are opening their wallets, but also for the embedded inflation gauge.

The ISM Index, auto sales, and factory orders will provide an update on the manufacturing economy.

Stay tuned for our take on all of these stories.
