A Mixed Bag in April’s Jobs Report
Bob Johnson sees good news in the 211,000 jobs added in April, but bad news on the quality of many of those jobs.
Bob Johnson: As usual, this month's jobs report was a mixed bag with some good news and some bad news.
First the good news: We added more than 211,000 jobs during the month of April. That was above the consensus forecast for 200,000 jobs, above the average of 180,000 jobs, and my forecast of 180,000 jobs, and was certainly better than last month's very disappointing 89,000 jobs. Clearly a great relief that the number didn't get any worse and certainly there seem to be some modest improvement on the headline number.
