The Week Ahead: First-Quarter Earnings Kick Off

Jeremy Glaser: Welcome to The Week Ahead. It's a short week for the market, but we will see the start of first-quarter earnings season and get some important data.

Citigroup, JP Morgan Chase, and Wells Fargo will all report on Thursday. Wells will be in focus particularly, as investors look to see what kind of continuing impact the account opening scandal is having on the bank.

Much of the key data in the week will be released on Friday, even though the stock market will be closed. The consumer price index will reveal if inflationary pressures are building. Signs that they are could move the Fed to be more aggressive in tightening monetary policy.

Retail sales are also due that day, and we will see if higher consumer sentiment readings are translating to more sales.
