The Week Ahead: Data Signals on Inflation, Retail Sales

Jeremy Glaser: Welcome to The Week Ahead.

The bulk of earnings season may be behind us, but that doesn't mean there aren't some important things on investors' radars. The Consumer Price Index on Wednesday will be closely watched for signs of inflationary pressures and what that could mean for Federal Reserve policy.

Also on Wednesday will be retail sales data, which will show if consumers are opening their wallets. Housing starts and industrial production will also be eyed.

On the earnings front, media firms Discovery Communications and CBS are on tap. We'll also hear from food firms Pepsico, Nestle, and Campbell Soup.

Generic drug giant Teva Pharmaceuticals and pharmacy benefits manager Express Scripts are also due to report.

Stay tuned to Morningstar for our take on these stories.
