The antitrust court case between health insurers Anthem (ANTM) and Cigna (CI) starts today. The two companies are seeking a $54 billion merger, which the Department of Justice wants to stop. This is only one of the many merger battles set to be fought in the days to come. One of top concern will be AT&T's (T) proposed $109 billion acquisition of media firm Time Warner (TWX). There is confusion as to how the Trump administration will view such cases. On one hand, president-elect Trump is against government intruding in the free market, but, on the other hand, he criticized AT&T’s deal.
U.S. shares opened in the green this morning. The Dow and S&P 500 were up 0.18% and 0.38%. Nasdaq, the second-largest exchange in the world, was up by 0.35%.
