Dollar Rises as Bond Prices Fall

U.S. shares were showing mixed signals Monday morning with the Dow up by about 0.12% and the Nasdaq down by about 0.33%. The S&P 500 was on a roller coaster, currently down by about 0.04%. Gold was down almost a percent, and crude oil was down about 1.52%.

Treasury and global bond prices fell as the U.S. dollar reached an 11-month high on expectations of a faster inflation. The budget deficit is expected to increase if President-elect Donald Trump makes good on his promise of creating economic stimulus through huge spending and tax cuts.
