We Put a 'Blended' Retirement Strategy to the Test
A so-so market environment illustrates the virtue of maintaining a liquidity component in an in-retirement portfolio.
Retirees, whose side are you on: income or total return?
Team Income is all about meeting cash flow needs in retirement with securities that kick off yield. Dividend-rich stocks, master limited partnerships, and lower-quality bonds and bond funds (sometimes closed-ends) are often part of the income-seeker's toolkit. As long as the portfolio delivers the desired yield, the income-oriented retiree doesn't have to sweat fluctuations in the portfolio's value, and he or she may be able to pass on the principal to heirs.
