European Markets Trend Higher

European markets were slightly up Wednesday.

The FTSE was up 0.4% while the CAC 40 Paris was up 0.2%, The DAX edged up 0.1%.

Investors looked ahead to the minutes of the Bank of England’s June meeting - due later in the day – for signs of an increase in interest rates.

Investors are also eyeing the Federal Reserve’s post-policy meeting press conference due midday in the U.S.

Stocks on the Move

Hennes & Mauritz was up 0.8% after the fashion retailer said June sales had started well and reported second-quarter profits in line with expectations.

Celectis surged 50% after the firm said it signed a deal with Pfizer to develop immunotherapy drugs in cancer.

Alstom gained 0.8%.

Siemens traded flat after its offer trumped that of GE for Alstom’s power assets following which the government responded by saying both companies would have to better their offers.

Rheinmetall AG strengthened 2% after a media report the German defense group was set to sign a EUR2.7 billion deal to make 980 Fuchs 2 military vehicles for Algeria.
