European Markets Up in Thin Trade

European markets were up Monday tracking gains in their Asian counterparts as investors focused on a speech from European Central Bank President Mario Draghi due later in Portugal.

The FTSE was closed for a public holiday. The CAC 40 Paris edged up 0.2% while the German DAX gained 1.1%.

Earlier this morning in Europe, the Gfk consumer climate index remained unchanged at 8.5 in May, in line with expectations.

In elections underway in the EU, anti-European Union and far-right parties performed well amid voter anger over high unemployment rates and austerity measures.
