European Markets Edge Up In Opening Moves

European markets were trading flat to slightly higher early Friday.

The FTSE 100 was up 0.1% at 8:37 a.m. in London, the CAC 40 Paris also added 0.1% and the DAX Frankfurt was up 0.2%.

Stocks on the Move
In the banking segment, HSBC Holdings Plc. rose over 3% following a ratings upgrade.

German lender Commerzbank AG also rallied 2.7%  on the back of ratings upgrade by Morgan Stanley.

In France, BNP Paribas SA was 1% higher. But others were little changed. Societe Generale SA was flat while Credit Agricole SA slipped 0.6%.

In corporate news, Bouygues SA reportedly improved its offer for Vivendi SA's phone unit. Shares of Bougues were up 1.2% while Vivendi SA added around a percent too.

Miners added to the gains on the resource-heavy FTSE100 index in London.

Top miner BHP Billiton Plc was up 1% while Rio Tinto Plc tacked on around 1.5%.
