European Markets Slip; Data in Focus

European markets slipped after recent gains Wednesday ahead of a batch of economic data from Europe and the U.S.

The FTSE slipped 0.2%. The CAC 40 Paris and the German DAX were also off 0.2% each.

Earlier Wednesday, data showed service sector activity in Spain fell unexpectedly in January with Markit's services PMI falling to a seasonally adjusted 53.7 from 54.9 in December.

U.K. services PMI and the second estimate of euro-zone GDP are due later, followed by the ADP jobs report just before the U.S. market open.

Stocks on the Move

Legal & General Group PLC fell 2.4% in London after reporting results.

BNP Paribas was up 0.8% while Societe Generale was up about half a percent.

Adidas AG dropped 1.4% after results. The sportswear major forecast 2014 profit as much as 17% below estimates.
