European Bargain Hunters Have Plenty of Choices
Our screen of 5-star foreign stocks with competitive advantages includes some of the continent's bigger names.
Europe might still be a great place for a vacation, but many investors are keeping their distance as the continent deals with an ongoing sovereign debt crisis that threatens not only the health of its economies but the future of the euro itself.
During the past year the MSCI Europe index, which tracks 462 large and midsized companies in developed European countries, has lost about 24%, including a harrowing 11% drop in just the past month. (Keep in mind the role that currency discrepancies play in foreign-stock performance. The figures used in this article are dollar-denominated, and the euro has lost about 14% of its value against the dollar during the past year, further exacerbating the decline in European stocks from the perspective of U.S. investors.)
