European Shares Bounce Back

Stocks in Europe rose Tuesday as investors came back to buy equities beaten down heavily in the prior day's correction.

At the time of writing, Britain's FTSE, France's CAC and Germany's DAX rose 0.3% to 0.5%.

Mining and telecom stocks were the early gainers: BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Xstrata and Anglo American were up 0.7% to 1% while Vodafone, Deutsche Telekom, France Telecom and BT Group rose 0.2% to 1.1%.

Deutsche Bank added 1.1% following a broker upgrade but that failed to lift peer stocks: Barclays, BNP Paribas, Credit Agricole and Societe Generale fell 0.7% to 1.8%.

In earnings, restaurant firm Whitbread Plc jumped 5.9% after declaring robust quarterly earnings.
