Here is a portfolio challenge. This taxable account belongs to a widow in her early 80s. I am trying to help her move to a more balanced portfolio. I have weeded several small holdings to get to this point. The total value of the account is $5,071,143. The largest holding is Exxon at $1,432,320 and the second is cash of $724,623. The first issue is her reluctance to sell all of her stocks. The second is that if we sold all of the holdings it would create an overall gain of $886,000. Of course there is reluctance on her part to pay the taxes on that much even with the lower rate this year. I would like to set up something to get a little bit better return on the cash than the Fidelity Select Money (FSLXX) –it is paying .07%. Thanks for your help in advance. By the way there is a $1,000,000 401 K backing this taxable account up. I have almost completed reallocating the stocks to funds in the 401 K to get to a more balanced portfolio The listing below is Stk symbol the name then shares: Cash $724,623 AA Alcoa 2000 AEP American elec pwr 1000 APL Atlas Pipeline 2000 BA Boeing 2000 BAC Bank of America 2859 CMCSA Comcast 2149 CNP Centerpoint Energy 2000 DD Dupont 3000 DUK Duke Energy 1100 EEP Enbridge 2000 EEB El Paso Pipeline 1000 EPD Enterprise Products 2810 FCX Freeport McMoran 2000 FDVLX Fidelity Value 460.226 FPSFX Fid Pacific Basin 7207.12 FUSVX Spartan 500 3210.84 FWWFX Fid Worldwide 5554.64 GE General Electric 6500 GLW Corning 500 JNJ Johnson & Johnson 1000 KFT Kraft 1384 KMP Kinder Morgan 2000 MO Altria Group 2000 OKS Oneok 1000 PAA Plains All American 2770 PM Phillip Morris 2000 SE Spectra Energy 550 SXL Sunco Logistics 3500 UNP Union Pacific 1000 VIA-B Viacom B-shares 672 WFC Wells Fargo 417 WMZ Williams Pipeline 7000 WR Westar Energy 1500 XOM Exxon Mobil 24000
