TOKYO (AP) -- Astellas Pharma Inc., Japan's No. 2 drug maker, said Monday it will buy U.S. cancer drug company OSI Pharmaceuticals Inc. for $4 billion in cash in a bid to expand its cancer drug business worldwide. Astellas said it will pay $57.50 per OSI share, up from $52 the Japanese company had offered earlier. The transaction will be completed within a month. http://finance.yahoo.com/news That's about 50 times TTM earnings, or a 2% return for the Japanese company. OSI must have a good pipeline to be worth that much to them. Astellas is the number 2 drug company in Japan, however, I assume they'll keep most of the OSI American employees in place, after all, in the R&D business, it's personel that you're after. Can't see where regulators in either country or the EU will have a problem with this.
