Hi all - I'm looking for a mutual (or money market) fund for my wife's 401k that invests in U.S. Treasurys only. Literally nothing else: no agency, no ABS/MBS/CMO, no floaters, no swaps, just Treasurys. I would prefer the shortest duration available. Any suggestions? This kind of beast is a lot harder to find that you might think: most "Government" funds, well, ain't. A few funds that *do* meet these criteria: FSIXX (closed, also $1M minimum), FDLXX (closed), VFISX (avg duration 2 yr, I *think* no agencys, can anyone confirm?), FSBIX (2.8 yr, a bit longer than I prefer, also who the heck is Spartan?). A few funds that *don't* meet these criteria: FDRXX, FGRXX, SPAXX, FISXX. I haven't been able to find a fund like that with a sub-1-year duration (basically investing in T-bills, not notes). The goal of this is of course maximum safety. I think in an "extreme event" agencys will be dumped before t-bills/notes, and money market fund insurance won't be worth a damn. YMMV but that is my goal. In any case such a fund is an interesting tool to have, and the difficulty of finding one is also pretty interesting.
