Hi All. I just got a letter in the mail outlining many changes to the Harvard University retirement plan coming this fall. Currently TIAA-CREF, Vangaurd and Fidelity are offered as providers with TIAA Traditional as the default investment for people who don't make a choice. Well, things are changing big time. TIAA-CREF is going from 24 options plus Lifecycle funds to 4 core funds and all Lifecycle Index funds plus TIAA Traditional and TIAA Real Estate. The 4 core funds offered are: TIAA-CREF Equity Index TIAA-CREF International Equity Index TIAA-CREF Bond Index TIAA-CREF Money Market Fidelity and Vanguard are going to something similar with 4 core funds, all Lifecycle Index Funds and a brokerage option. Which seems pretty good to me. The only downside is if you want a TIAA-CREF fund that isn't being offered, you need to open a brokerage account with Fidelity or Vanguard as the "other options" for T-C are annuties with no brokerage option. Also on the plus side is all fees are being lowered Institutional levels so almost every investment options for any vendor will be under 0.20%. I'm still not sure where to put my money as I have it split between the vendors. However, now since all vendors are at very low fee levels, it would simply paperwork and the fees are no longer a factor. Anyone else get notices about these upcoming changes? The letter I recieved said this was due to the new federal requlations on penions and retirment funds.
This index mutual fund is a worthy choice, but there are stronger alternatives.
