wondering if I should have the same concerns with bonds. To be more specific, I'm considering splitting the bond portion of my short-term savings between JAFIX and JASBX . They're both managed by the same duo. Should this concern me?

We run our own profit sharing plan for a small business thru mutual funds. With a "long term" investment approach we've had our domestic bond portion invested in vanguard total bond market index, harbor bond, and metropolitan west total return. With the future prospects of rising rates, I have been thinking about moving a portion of our bond portfolio (10-20%) into shorter term and away from government bonds. The two questions that I am contemplating. 1) Is it worth shifting some to a shorter term and away from government? In 2003-4 time frame when rates rose gradually, intermediate term bonds still out performed short term. 2) Which short term bond fund? Many short term bond funds such as trprice (prwbx), vang inv grade (vfstx) seem to be fairly well split between AAA down to BBB quality. I don't really see them as outperforming the intermediate term funds that we hold unless rates rose fast and furious. Weitz (wefix) and janus ( jasbx ) short term funds not much different. Any thoughts on Thompson Plumb Bond (thopx)? It's a short term fund and lower quality bonds but still investment grade, both good for rising rates. Other fund options? Also considering moving funds from vanguard total bond adm (vbtlx) to vanguard interm-term investment grade (vficx). Thanks for any comments, jk
