I just read Andy Ng's blurb on this, and he is a great analyst, but I still think this deal is crazy. 1) Intel is a semiconductor company. What the hell do they know about running a software company? 2) 60% over current value? Was Paul Otellini high or something? 3) What a fantastic business to get into! Anti Virus software. There are a million competitors, it's got no barriers to entry, you could probably get the top 10 college computer students in any university to make anti virus software. Oh yeah, and they can sell it over the internet, for almost free! 4) More tie in to the whole "Wintel" platform is not what INTC needs - last I checked Macs were gaining share, and never get viruses 5) Mcafee of all? Why? It's horrible software. It has a huge footprint, and it's security holes are even larger. If Intel had to buy someone, why not someone small and upcoming. Avast or Kaspersky or just about anyone else. Software that actually prevents viruses for crying out loud. This is a garbage acquisition. If my 1000 shares counted for anything, I'd gladly vote this down. I'd rather have had the 7 bill in a special dividend. BOOOO ;-)
