Trump commemorates Pearl Harbor attack with veterans' meeting, tweets
President Donald Trump met with congressional leaders Thursday as government funding was running out, commemorated the attack on Pearl Harbor and recommended a book on former President Andrew Jackson.
'CHUCK AND NANCY' BACK AT WHITE HOUSE
Trump met with the top congressional Republicans and Democrats at the White House, a day ahead of a deadline to fund the government. "We're all here as a very friendly, well-unified group," Trump said ahead of the meeting. He met with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York, House Speaker Paul Ryan of Wisconsin and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California.
As the group was meeting, Congress was preparing to vote on a short-term budget, to fund the government through Dec. 22. Passage is expected and would give the leaders more time to hammer out a longer deal on spending and issues including immigration and the Children's Health Insurance Program.

PEARL HARBOR COMMEMORATION
Trump signed a proclamation for National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, and met with six veterans of the attack that occurred 76 years ago. "That was a pretty wild scene, you'll never forget that, right?" he told one of the veterans in the Roosevelt Room of the White House. One of the veterans, unbidden, broke into the song "Remember Pearl Harbor" at the event.
Trump also sent related tweets, including one showing the American flag at half-staff at the White House.
Trump urged his Twitter followers to buy a new book about former President Andrew Jackson co-written by a co-host of "Fox & Friends," one of his favorite shows. "Really good" was Trump's assessment of the book on Jackson, whom he is known to admire.
