S&P 500 breaks four-day slump, end slightly higher
U.S. stock-market indexes closed modestly higher on Thursday, driven by gains in the technology, industrials and materials sectors. The S&P 500 closed 7.71 points, or 0.3%, higher at 2,636.98, after four consecutive days of declines. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 70.57 points, or 0.3%, to 24,211.48. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite index advanced 36.47 points, or 0.5%, to 6,812.84. Among the best performers on Wall Street, shares of CF Industries Holdings Inc (CF) jumped 4.6%.
