SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Among the companies whose shares are expected to see active trade in Tuesday's session are Apple Inc., Ford Motor Co., and Yahoo Inc.

After Monday's closing bell, Apple (AAPL) reported fiscal first-quarter profit of $13.1 billion, flat from a year earlier. On a per-share basis, the earned $14.50, compared with $13.81 a share a year ago. Revenue increased to $57.59 billion versus $54.51 billion. Analysts, on average, had forecast Apple to earn $14.09 a share on $57.47 billion in revenue. Apple said its results were boosted by sales of 51 million iPhones and 26 million iPads during the quarter.

However, shares of Apple dropped more than 8% in after-hours trading after the company projected second-quarter sales in a range of $42 billion to $44 billion, below Wall Street's estimate of $46.12 billion.

Also, shares of Seagate Technology (STX) dropped more than 6% after the computer data drive company's profit fell below Wall Street expectations. Similarly, shares of Zions Bancorp (ZION) declined nearly 5%, while shares of Sanmina Corp. (SANM) rose more than 7%.

On Tuesday, Ford (F) is expected to report fourth-quarter earnings of 27 cents a share, according to a consensus survey by FactSet.

Yahoo (YHOO) is projected to post fourth-quarter earnings of 39 cents a share. "While 2013 represented a year of right-sizing, investment and acquisition, 2014 should be the year where monetization efforts drive a resumption in top-line growth," Youssef Squali, an analyst at Cantor Fitzgerald, said in a note. "In the meantime, prospects for the highly anticipated Alibaba IPO this year, cost containment, and a current buyback should maintain positive momentum in the stock."
