2014 Net Income and EBITDA Expected to Increase More Than 25 Percent, Driven by Volume Growth from Completed Growth Projects
Three-year Financial Forecasts Updated
TULSA, Okla., Dec. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- ONEOK Partners, L.P. (NYSE: OKS) today announced that its 2014 net income is expected to increase 27 percent compared with the partnership's current 2013 earnings guidance that was updated Nov. 5, 2013.
ONEOK Partners' 2014 net income is expected to be in the range of $975 million to $1.075 billion, compared with its current 2013 earnings guidance range of $790 million to $830 million.
"Continued volume growth in our natural gas gathering and processing, and natural gas liquids segments from completed capital growth projects in 2013 and projects that will be completed in 2014 are driving our higher 2014 earnings guidance," said John W. Gibson, chairman and chief executive officer of ONEOK Partners.
"Projected distribution and earnings growth are expected to be driven primarily by natural gas and natural gas liquids volume growth, not by higher projected commodity prices or wider projected price differentials," Gibson added.
2014 earnings guidance includes a projected 1.5-cent-per-unit-per-quarter increase in unitholder distributions declared, while maintaining an annual coverage ratio of 1.05 to 1.15 times distributable cash flow. Actual unitholder distribution declarations are subject to ONEOK Partners board approval.
2014 earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) are expected to be in the range of $1.565 billion to $1.665 billion, compared with the current 2013 earnings guidance midpoint of approximately $1.3 billion, an increase of 26 percent.
The midpoint for ONEOK Partners' 2014 operating income guidance is $1.2 billion, reflecting increased natural gas gathering and processing volumes in the natural gas gathering and processing segment and higher expected natural gas liquids (NGL) volumes gathered and fractionated in the natural gas liquids segment. These increased volumes are the result of full-year operations and earnings from growth projects completed throughout 2013 and reflect expected earnings from the completion of growth projects through 2014 in the natural gas gathering and processing and natural gas liquids segments.
Preliminary estimates for the partnership's 2014 distributable cash flow (DCF) are expected to be in the range of $1.15 billion to $1.25 billion compared with its current 2013 guidance range of $930 million to $980 million, a 26 percent increase.
Additional information is available in Exhibits A and B in the guidance tables on the ONEOK Partners website.
THREE-YEAR GROWTH FORECASTS UPDATED
ONEOK Partners expects EBITDA to increase by an average of 15 to 20 percent annually between 2013 and 2016, compared with current 2013 earnings guidance.
The partnership also has estimated an average annual distribution increase of 6 to 8 percent between 2013 and 2016, which includes the planned 1.5-cent-per-unit-per-quarter increase in unitholder distributions declared in 2014, subject to ONEOK Partners board approval.
NATURAL GAS GATHERING AND PROCESSING SEGMENT
The midpoint of the natural gas gathering and processing segment's 2014 operating income guidance is $288 million, a 38 percent increase compared with current 2013 guidance.
The 2014 earnings guidance reflects higher anticipated natural gas volumes gathered and processed as a result of new supply connections and completed projects in the Williston Basin in North Dakota, and anticipated volume growth from projects that will be completed in 2014, including:
These natural gas and NGL volume increases are expected to be offset partially by lower natural gas gathering volumes in Kansas and the Powder River Basin in Wyoming due to decreased drilling activity in the dry-gas areas in the Powder River Basin and natural production declines.
Natural gas volumes processed in 2014 are expected to increase approximately 30 percent compared with current 2013 guidance, while natural gas volumes gathered in 2014 are expected to increase approximately 26 percent compared with current 2013 guidance. The natural gas gathering and processing segment expects to connect approximately 1,300 wells in 2014, compared with approximately 1,200 estimated for 2013.
Approximately 63 percent of the segment's expected 2014 equity natural gas production is hedged at an average price of $4.11 per million British thermal units (MMBtu); 44 percent of its expected 2014 equity natural gas liquids production is hedged at an average composite price of $1.19 per gallon; and 66 percent of its expected 2014 equity condensate production is hedged at an average price of $94.26 per barrel.
The average unhedged prices used in ONEOK Partners' 2014 earnings guidance are $93.84 per barrel for New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) crude oil; $4.10 per MMBtu for NYMEX natural gas; and $1.25 per gallon for composite natural gas liquids. The composite NGL price for 2014 assumes ethane rejection for the entire year.
For 2014, the partnership estimates that in its natural gas gathering and processing segment, a 1-cent per gallon change in the composite price of NGLs would change annual net margin by approximately $2.0 million; a $1.00 per barrel change in the price of crude oil would change annual net margin by approximately $1.3 million; and a 10-cent per MMBtu change in the price of natural gas would change annual net margin by approximately $4.0 million. All of these sensitivities exclude the effects of hedging and assume normal operating conditions.
NATURAL GAS LIQUIDS SEGMENT
The midpoint of the natural gas liquids segment's 2014 operating income guidance is $776 million, a 41 percent increase compared with current 2013 guidance.
The 2014 earnings guidance reflects higher anticipated fee-based earnings from increased NGL volumes gathered and fractionated as a result of completed capital growth projects and anticipated increased volumes from projects, including:
ONEOK Partners' 2014 guidance assumes the Conway-to-Mont Belvieu Oil Price Information Service (OPIS) average ethane in ethane/propane mix price differential to be 7 cents per gallon, compared with its current 2013 guidance of 3 to 6 cents per gallon for the fourth quarter 2013.
NATURAL GAS PIPELINES SEGMENT
The midpoint of the natural gas pipelines segment's 2014 operating income guidance is $143 million and assumes that 88 percent of transportation capacity and 100 percent of natural gas storage capacity is expected to be contracted for 2014.
For 2014, ONEOK Partners' capital expenditures are expected to be approximately $2.25 billion, comprised of approximately $2.1 billion in growth capital, related to the $6.0 billion to $6.4 billion of growth projects between 2010 and 2016; and $144 million in maintenance capital.

NON-GAAP (GENERALLY ACCEPTED ACCOUNTING PRINCIPLES) FINANCIAL MEASURES
ONEOK Partners has disclosed in this news release anticipated EBITDA and DCF levels that are non-GAAP financial measures. EBITDA and DCF are used as measures of the partnership's financial performance. EBITDA is defined as net income adjusted for interest expense, depreciation and amortization, income taxes, allowance for equity funds used during construction and certain other items. DCF is defined as EBITDA, computed as described above, less interest expense, maintenance capital expenditures and equity earnings from investments, adjusted for distributions received and certain other items.
The partnership believes the non-GAAP financial measures described above are useful to investors because these measurements are used by many companies in its industry as an indicator of financial performance and are commonly employed by financial analysts and others to evaluate the financial performance of the partnership and to compare the financial performance of the partnership with the performance of other publicly traded partnerships within its industry.
EBITDA and DCF should not be considered alternatives to net income, net income attributable to ONEOK Partners, earnings per unit or any other measure of financial performance presented in accordance with GAAP.
These non-GAAP financial measures exclude some, but not all, items that affect net income. Additionally, these calculations may not be comparable with similarly titled measures of other companies. Furthermore, these non-GAAP measures should not be viewed as indicative of the actual amount of cash that is available for distributions or that is planned to be distributed for a given period nor do they equate to available cash as defined in the partnership agreement.
