SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Among the companies whose shares are expected to see active trade in Tuesday's session are Apple Inc., Netflix Inc., and Texas Instruments Inc.

Apple(AAPL) is hosting a media event at 1 p.m. Eastern in San Francisco where it is widely expected to announce new versions of the iPad and iPad mini. "We still have a lot to cover," said the invitation sent out to the press. "This gathering has been widely discussed in the media as an iPad-focused event, and our research during our recent trip to China supports this notion. We believe this will be the most important refresh of the iPad franchise for Apple since the first iPad went on sale on April 4, 2010," Brian White, an analyst at Cantor Fitzgerald, said in a report.

After the market's close Monday, Netflix (NFLX) said its third-quarter profit tripled to $32 million, or 52 cents a share. Revenue grew 22% to $1.1 billion. The video streaming company also said it expects per-share earnings for the current quarter to come in at a range of 47 cents to 73 cents, above the FactSet estimate of 45 cents a share. Shares of Netflix soared more than 10% in after-hours trading.

Texas Instruments (TXN) said late Monday that its third-quarter profit fell to $629 million, or 56 cents a share, from $784 million, or 67 cents a share, a year earlier. Revenue also dropped, to $3.24 billion from $3.39 billion. Analysts surveyed by FactSet had forecast the chip company to earn 53 cents a share. Shares of TI fell more than 3% after hours.

E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co. (DD) is projected to report third-quarter earnings of 41 cents a share, according to a consensus survey by Thomson Reuters.

CIT Group Inc. (CIT) is expected to post earnings of 94 cents a share in the third quarter.

Coach Inc. (COH) is likely to post first-quarter earnings of 76 cents a share.

Delta Air Lines Inc. (DAL) is forecast to post earnings of $1.36 a share in the third quarter.

EMC Corp. (EMC) is projected to report third-quarter earnings of 45 cents a share. "Storage fundamentals should improve in Q3, even with mixed results and a cautious Q4 outlook," said Brent Bracelin, an analyst at Pacific Crest Securities.

Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. (FCX) is forecast to post earnings of 62 cents a share in the third quarter.

Harley-Davidson Inc. (HOG) is likely to report third-quarter earnings of 73 cents share.

Shares of the electronics retailer got a big boost on Monday on the heels of a report in The Wall Street Journal that GE Capital extended a loan of about $835 million to help RadioShack refinance outstanding debt.

Reynolds American Inc. (RAI) is projected to post third-quarter earnings of 86 cents a share.

Travelers Cos. (TRV) is expected to post third-quarter earnings of $2.05 a share.

Apollo Group Inc. (APOL) is likely to post earnings of 25 cents a share in the fourth quarter. "Investors have become increasingly pessimistic about the University of Phoenix's future following three years of extremely weak new enrollment results. While it is difficult to identify a positive near-term catalyst, we believe Apollo will eventually return to earnings growth and view the most dire investor scenarios as unlikely," Timo Connor, an analyst at William Blair & Co., said in a note.
