FRANKFURT--Strong demand for new models helped Germany's Daimler AG (DAI.XE) to sell more cars in September than in any previous month, the company said Friday.
The Mercedes-Benz and Smart brands sold 151,520 cars, 14% more than a year earlier. Sales of the compact A, B and CLA classes jumped 68% in the January-to-September period. Sales of the E class rose 26% in September.
Asian demand was particularly strong in September. Sales of the Mercedes-Benz brand rose 21% in China and 31% in Japan.
"Looking at the past nine months, we can safely say that Mercedes-Benz will post another sales record for 2013," said Joachim Schmidt, a Mercedes-Benz executive.
