NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Financial stocks slipped on Thursday following news of a $920 million settlement reached by regulators with J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. (JPM), the biggest U.S. bank by assets. Shares for the firm were down almost 1% in early trading and it was one of the biggest losers in the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA). The Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF), which tracks financial stocks in the S&P 500 (SPX), fell more than 0.3%, and financials was one of the sectors leading the index down. Morgan Stanley (MS) fell 0.9%. Wells Fargo & Co. (WFC) fell 0.7%. Citigroup Inc. (C) rose 0.2%. Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS) and Bank of America Corp. (BAC) were up modestly.
