LONDON, Sept. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has been selected to design the Active Network Infrastructure (ANWI) for NATO's new headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. This contract, worth more than $100 million, includes options under which Lockheed Martin may also be contracted to maintain the NATO network for five years.
"Lockheed Martin is honored to work with the NATO Communications and Information (NCI) Agency to ensure the new headquarters in Brussels reflects the Alliance's mission and modern role in the 21st century," said Angela Heise, vice president of Enterprise IT Solutions for Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Solutions. "As the leading provider of advanced information systems, security, and services we will work in partnership with the NCI Agency team to create a modern network where personnel can use their preferred method of communication easily, reliably and securely – no matter what network, application or device they choose to use."
NATO's new headquarters in Brussels will be the face and heart of NATO, setting an example of technological integration and collaboration for Member State users and Partner nations. To design NATO's new network infrastructure, Lockheed Martin's team will leverage modern communications and information technologies to provide NATO staff and national delegations with innovative capabilities that support 21st century ways of working. This includes developing an infrastructure to service more than 4,500 users at the Alliance's headquarters and support up to an additional 1,500 conference visitors. Among the items Lockheed Martin's team will provide to NATO include four integrated security networks interoperable with other NATO nations; cross domain information assurance solutions for secure, seamless interconnectivity; a robust, modern, high availability data centre; and comprehensive unified communication and collaboration services.
For the NATO ANWI project, Lockheed Martin will build upon successes developing systems for customers with similar mission requirements to create a state-of-the-art, open infrastructure. For nearly 20 years, Lockheed Martin has upgraded some of the largest military networks in the United States, including those for the Pentagon, the Defense Information Systems Agency, U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and the U.S. Air Force. To build a strong and enduring partnership with NATO, Lockheed Martin assembled a team of the most experienced and leading U.S. and European companies, including SELEX Elsag, Prodata Systems, Dell, Microsoft and Cisco.
