CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., Aug. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Josef Newgarden will make his IndyCar debut this weekend at the busy, bumpy, bending 2-mile, 12-turn street circuit that winds its way around Baltimore's Inner Harbor and Camden Yards. Newgarden was set to make his Baltimore IndyCar debut last season, but was not able to race due to suffering an injury from the Go Pro Grand Prix at Sonoma Raceway. However, Newgarden is already familiar with the Baltimore race track after finishing 2nd in the 2011 Firestone Indy Lights race.
"Baltimore is a great track," Newgarden said. "I like the driving style that's required which translates well to an IndyCar, so it shouldn't be a problem. I wish I would have been able to race the course last year, but it wasn't possible after the injury I sustained at Sonoma Raceway."
Quaker Chemical Corporation, an official sponsor and technical partner of Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing, will again back Newgarden's No. 67 SFHR Dallara/Honda/Firestone car this weekend as SFHR slides into the home stretch of the season.
"We are eager to attend a race in Quaker's backyard, and host both Quaker guests and Associates as Newgarden takes to the streets of Baltimore," said, Joe Berquist, Quaker VP and Managing Director North America. "The demands of the Baltimore track should be a great test of the Quaker technology designed for SFHR."
Last year veteran driver Bruno Junqueira, substituted in the SFHR entry, so the team has experience setting up the Dallara DW12 for the tricky Baltimore circuit, which will be critical to getting a good result in the Grand Prix.
"Baltimore is generally the bumpiest street circuit we visit all year, which presents a different set of challenges," Newgarden said. "The curves and front straightaways are very bumpy, potentially making the car airborne.
To watch Newgarden and the No. 67 SFHR Dallara/Honda/Firestone car take to the Streets of Baltimore, tune into NBC Sports Network at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 1. For the latest team updates follow @SFHRindy on Twitter and Instagram.
