NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Shares of Newmont Mining Corp. rose in premarket trade Tuesday while shares of C.H. Robinson Worldwide and Best Buy Co. sank.
Newmont Mining Corp. (NEM) shares rose about 3%. December gold surged above $1,400 an ounce Tuesday on safe-haven flows spurred in part by a possibility of U.S. military action in Syria.
C.H. Robinson Worldwide Inc. (CHRWD) shares fell 5%. Shares ended trade Monday 3.7% higher after the company announced a 15-million share increase in its repurchase plan.
Shares of Best Buy Co. Inc. (BBY) fell 2%. Founder Richard Schulze, the company's largest shareholder, filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission late Monday to sell shares.
TripAdvisor Inc. (TRIP) shares fell more than 5%. Shares have shed 3.7% this month through Monday's close but have surged more than 72% in 2013.
