'Pirates of Silicon Valley'


Before Ashton Kutcher, former "ER" star Noah Wyle took a crack at portraying Steve Jobs, alongside Anthony Michael Hall as Microsoft Corp.'s (MSFT) Bill Gates. The 1999 made-for-TV movie focused on the early days of the two companies and the rivalry that developed between Jobs and Gates.

Brad Pitt plays Oakland Athletic's general manager Billy Beane in this 2011 movie that was nominated for six Academy Awards. Beane, a former major league outfielder, became known for putting together cost-effective baseball teams in an era of high-cost talent.

'The Devil Wears Prada'


Meryl Streep plays ruthless and cynical magazine editor Miranda Priestly in this 2006 film that was purportedly inspired by the reputation of real-life Vogue magazine editor Anna Wintour. Streep earned a record-setting 14th Oscar nomination for the role. Wintour later said she liked the film.

'Barbarians at the Gate'


This 1993 made-for-TV movie stars James Garner as F. Ross Johnson, the CEO of RJR Nabisco who made a failed attempt in the late 1980s at a leveraged buyout of his own company. Johnson eventually loses his buyout attempt after being outmaneuvered by LBO specialists Henry Kravis and George Roberts.

'Roger & Me'


Director Michael Moore's 1989 documentary about his hometown of Flint, Mich., and the impact of General Motors downsizing on the town. His futile chase of then GM (GM.XX) CEO Roger Smith to ask why 30,000 auto workers had to lose their jobs is the centerpiece of the film.

'Tucker: The Man and His Dream'


The 1988 movie about Preston Tucker, a maverick car designer who challenged the Detroit establishment with his ideas in the years just after World War II. Jeff Bridges starred as the auto designer, who was able to produce only 51 of his Tucker 48 sedans before his company folded in 1949.
