SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- A spokesman for Herbalife Ltd. HLF on Thursday declined to comment on whether it will aggressively respond to Bill Ackman who earlier released a 40-page questionnaire attacking the company's finances and business practices. "There are some 240 questions. Do you think we are ready?" said the spokesman who did not want to be named. He also declined to comment on speculation that the company is in the market buying back stock. In a separate statement, Herbalife stressed that it is a "financially strong" company. "Pershing Square's latest tome is motivated by a reckless $1 billion short bet," it said. Shares of Herbalife rose 1.1% to $36.19 after trading above 2% earlier in the session.
