SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) - Technology stocks were modestly higher early Wednesday, as shares of Amazon.com AMZN gained more than 7% to $280.04 after the online retailer posted a stronger-than-expected operating income. The sector also got a lift from shares of Research In Motion RIMM which traded up 4% to $16.28 as the handset maker geared up for the rollout of BlackBerry10. Chip stocks also posted gains, with Intel Corp. INTC and Advanced Micro Devices AMD each edging up fractionally. The Nasdaq Composite Index COMP was up 6 points, or 0.2%, to stand at 3,159.
