BOSTON, Jan. 31, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Eaton Vance Massachusetts Municipal Income Trust (NYSE MKT: MMV) (the "Trust"), a closed-end management investment company, today announced the earnings of the Trust for the three months and year ended November 30, 2012. The Trust's fiscal year ended on November 30, 2012.
For the three months ended November 30, 2012, the Trust had net investment income of $514,575 ($0.187 per common share). From this amount, the Trust paid dividends on preferred shares of $14,170 (equal to $0.005 for each common share), resulting in net investment income after the preferred dividends of $500,405, or $0.182 per common share. The Trust's net investment income for the year ended November 30, 2012 was $2,118,603 ($0.771 per common share, before deduction of the preferred share dividends totaling $0.019 per common share), resulting in net investment income after the preferred dividends of $0.752 per common share. In comparison, for the three months ended November 30, 2011, the Trust had net investment income of $583,452 ($0.212 per common share). From this amount, the Trust paid dividends on preferred shares of $11,569 (equal to $0.004 for each common share), resulting in net investment income after the preferred dividends of $571,883, or $0.208 per common share. The Trust's net investment income for the year ended November 30, 2011 was $2,440,871 ($0.890 per common share, before deduction of the preferred share dividends totaling $0.023 per common share), resulting in net investment income after the preferred dividends of $0.867 per common share.
Net realized and unrealized gains for the three months ended November 30, 2012 were $1,702,114 ($0.623 per common share). The Trust's net realized and unrealized gains for the year ended November 30, 2012 were $6,263,430 ($2.283 per common share). In comparison, net realized and unrealized gains for the three months ended November 30, 2011 were $508,455 ($0.179 per common share). The Trust's net realized and unrealized gains for the year ended November 30, 2011 were $618,839 ($0.219 per common share).
On November 30, 2012, net assets of the Trust applicable to common shares were $44,548,887. The net asset value per common share on November 30, 2012 was $16.20 based on 2,750,521 common shares outstanding. In comparison, on November 30, 2011, net assets of the Trust applicable to common shares were $38,372,394. The net asset value per common share on November 30, 2011 was $13.97 based on 2,746,642 common shares outstanding.
