The Week Ahead: Netflix, GE, P&G Kick Off Earnings Season

We'll see reports from Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, and Johnson & Johnson, among others. Plus, retail sales, industrial production, and housing starts.

Jeremy Glaser: Earnings seasons kicks into high gear this week. We'll see more reports from big financial institutions including Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and American Express.

Netflix is due on Monday. The shares have been under some pressure recently amid a broader tech sell-off, but analyst Neil Macker still sees the shares as dramatically overvalued. He points out that even though subscriber growth has come in ahead of expectations, the firm continues to burn through cash.

Johnson & Johnson reports on Tuesday. Robust drug sales led to good results last quarter, though analyst Damien Conover thinks that sales of some products are likely to slow down through the year.

GE on Friday will be closely watched as the firm looks to regain its footing as it embarks on a multiyear restructuring project.

Procter & Gamble will also give an update on Friday. Erin Lash thinks the shares look attractive today given the firm's dividend and focused investments.

On the data front, retail sales, industrial production, and housing starts are on tap.

Stay tuned for our take on these stories.
