New Zealand January Food Price Index Up 1.2% Vs December
By Rebecca Howard
WELLINGTON, New Zealand--New Zealand's food price index rose 1.2% on the month in December and was up 0.9% on the year, Statistics New Zealand said Friday.
"Seasonally higher prices for fruit and vegetables, and less discounting on chocolate, beef, and lamb were partly countered by lower prices for milk, cheese, and eggs," Chris Pike, prices manager at Statistics New Zealand, said.
The food price index measures the rate of price change for food and food services purchased by households. Statistics New Zealand visits shops across New Zealand to collect prices for the index and check sizes of packaged goods, such as coffee, soft drinks and juices.
