Your Foreign- and World-Stock Headquarters

Use this screen as a base from which to explore global offerings.

Morningstar Analysts, 03/16/2010

When looking for investments in economies around the globe, it's nice to have a back-pocket screen to run that gets the ball rolling just enough to get a barrelful of good funds. You can then use your personal preferences to whittle down that group of ideas until you've got exactly what you're seeking. Here's one such screen to save for a rainy day.

Start by narrowing the field to distinct funds in the broad international-stock category.

Morningstar Category = International Stock
And Special Criteria = Distinct portfolios only
And Purchase Constraints not = Closed-New Investment

Next we'll screen for funds for which Morningstar Analyst Reports are available and have Morningstar Ratings of 3 stars or better.

And Analysis not = NA
And Mstar Rating > 3 stars

We then narrow our search to funds with managers that have been on board for at least five years and bested two thirds of the fund's category rivals over that span, charged lower fees than the category norm, and could be purchased by new investors for $10,000 or less.

And Manager Tenure (Average) > 5.0
And % Rank Cat 12 Mo < 50
And % Rank Cat 5 Yr < 33
And Audited Expense Ratio < 1.25
And Min Init Purchase < 10,000

From here, you've got a base to tinker with to find exactly what you're looking for without having to create a new screen from scratch. As of Jan. 12, this screen turned up 23 funds in Principia. Here are some of the offerings that turn up:
