Smith County Homeowner Replaces Roof with Help of Grant

FHLB Dallas and Southside Bank Award More than $3K for Improvements

Dorothy Woods, 76, knew her home’s roof leaked, but the Smith County native couldn’t afford to have it replaced. Disabled and living on a fixed income, Ms. Woods said she felt blessed when told a new roof was going to be installed. It was paid for by a $3,312 Special Needs Assistance Program (SNAP) grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas) and Southside Bank, an FHLB Dallas member institution.

Southside Bank teamed up with Habitat for Humanity of Smith County to facilitate the repairs of Ms. Woods’ home, where she has lived for 40 years.

“I’ve known about the grants for a while,” Ms. Woods said. “But you just learn to do without until you can do better.”

Awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, SNAP grants provide funding for the repair and rehabilitation of owner-occupied housing of eligible, special-needs individuals.
