4R Advocate Nomination Deadline is October 31

The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) is now accepting nominations for the 2018 4R Advocate program. It recognizes farmers and retailers who excel at implementing the 4R Nutrient Stewardship principles of applying the right nutrient source at the right time, in the right place and at the right rate.

Nominations are due by October 31 and are easily submitted online at nutrientstewardship.org/advocates/become-an-advocate/. Ag retailers can work with growers to complete the forms with information about how they implement the 4R practices. Winners will be in announced in December.

Winners receive an all-expense paid trip to the 2018 Commodity Classic which takes place February 27 through March 1, 2018 in Anaheim, Calif. They will be recognized during an exclusive TFI awards banquet during the Classic.

“4R Advocates help us share the story of why it is important to use 4Rs and how they benefit farmers in a real-world way,” said Lara Moody, TFI’s vice president of stewardship and sustainability. “Our advocates demonstrate what using the 4Rs looks like and can show firsthand the tangible benefits the practices provide.”

Now in its seventh year, the 4R Advocate Program has recognized 60 growers and retailers to date who farm 144,425 acres in 17 states. In addition to receiving awards, the winners advocate for 4R practices during community events, grower meetings and in media interviews.

General information about 4Rs is available at nutrientstewardship.org.
