The "US Market Report for Direct Energy Devices 2017 - MedCore" report has been added to Research and Markets' offering.

Bipolar instruments have two electrodes so that the current is passed from one electrode through the grasped tissue to the other electrode to complete the circuit. Bipolar energy can still spread to the adjacent tissue if the instrument is active for a prolonged period of time, or used with excess force; however, this occurs with much less frequency than with monopolar devices. Traditional bipolar instruments are almost always reusable.

Another direct energy device that has become very popular is the advanced bipolar device, which also has a vessel sealing function. These instruments are disposable devices that use the heat conducted from the probes to close off small or large vessels by pulverizing the surrounding tissue in order to stop bleeding.
