Time Inc. (NYSE:TIME) has strengthened its digital leadership team with the appointment of Julie Alvin, most recently Bustle's Executive Editor and Director of Brand Initiatives, to Senior Digital Director, Lifestyle. Alvin will oversee digital operations and content for the company's INSTYLE, REAL SIMPLE, SOUTHERN LIVING and HELLOGIGGLES brands, beginning October 16. These brands reach an audience of more than 18 million. She will report to Alan Murray, Chief Content Officer.

“A digital and creative visionary who understands how to engage audiences and build digital communities, Julie is the ideal choice to continue to scale Time Inc.’s lifestyle brands and serve readers on multiple platforms,” said Murray. “The combination of her modern eye and her ability to stay true to the DNA of a brand will play an integral role in growing our audience, tapping new markets and executing the digital vision we have for this group.”

Alvin commented: “I’m thrilled to join Time Inc. to lead the digital teams of these powerful, storied brands. From their inception, each of these brands has reached and engaged with a variety of audiences, from young women to parents to world travelers to fitness gurus to foodies, and I look forward to further developing their voices in the lifestyle space and generating high-impact content across these brands and platforms.”

Time Inc.'s digital trajectory has changed significantly in the past year as it has increased cooperation, coordination and sharing among sites; prioritized and driven video growth; and demonstrated an unrivaled ability to create new brands like WELL DONE, THE PRETTY, TIMEHEALTH and COINAGE by using the full power of the company’s digital scale, which now totals over 130 million monthly unique visitors, per comScore. In late 2016, Time Inc. announced the formation of digital desks dedicated to topics ranging from celebrity and beauty to sports and technology.

As one of the first editors to join Bustle in 2013, Alvin played a pivotal role in growing the site's lifestyle coverage and contributed to the brand's success as a leading independent women's website. She is also recognized for her regular appearances on a variety of television and video outlets, addressing a wide array of topics—from public policy to the gender wage gap to Kim Kardashian. As Bustle’s Executive Editor and Director of Brand Initiatives, she oversaw features, content packages, tentpoles and special initiatives across the brand’s verticals. She also served as Executive Editor and Deputy Editor of Bustle. Alvin previously worked for Google, Condé Nast’s Cookie Magazine and Details, as well as Crain Communications. She's written for the New York Times, FOOD & WINE, Marie Claire and Huffington Post.
