Police say one suspect is 'down'
More than 20 people are dead and at least 100 injured after a gunman opened fire on a crowd at a country-music concert in Las Vegas on Sunday evening.
What happened? The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department police tweeted (https://twitter.com/LVMPD/status/914726209770029056) at 10:38 p.m. local time that they were "investigating reports of an active shooter" near the Mandalay Bay Casino, asking people to steer clear of the area.
A large crowd of people were attending an open-air country music festival at the Mandalay Bay Casino on the Vegas strip. As country star Jason Aldean was performing, several shots rang out, wounding and killing several in the audience.
The Las Vegas police said the shooter opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel, media reports said. That suspect is dead, and the authorities are not looking for any other shooters.
How many have been injured? Scenes of panic surfaced on social media, with users posting videos and photos of people fleeing a concert. Some concert-goers mistook what sounded like prolonged gunshots for fireworks. Other images shared showed injured individuals lying on the ground.
