UPDATE: So, the Russians DID interfere... with the NFL anthem protest controversy
By Shawn Langlois, MarketWatch
'They were taking both sides of the argument this weekend'
That's what Republican James Lankford, who sits on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said Wednesday during a hearing on threats facing the United States.
The accusation was made amid a congressional investigation into Moscow's alleged meddling in the 2016 presidential election, according to Reuters (https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-congress-cyber-russia/senator-says-russian-internet-trolls-stoked-nfl-debate-idUSKCN1C237J). The probe is now focusing on how Russian agents use social media to stir the pot.
"They were taking both sides of the argument this weekend... to try to raise the noise level of America and make a big issue seem like an even bigger issue as they are trying to push divisiveness in this country," Lankford continued, without immediately providing supporting evidence to back his claim.
If true, the trolls have to be pleased with their efforts so far, considering the backlash (http://www.marketwatch.com/story/player-protests-sweep-nfl-as-trump-continues-his-attacks-2017-09-24) President Trump has faced in recent days for his stance that taking a knee during the national anthem should be considered a fireable offense.
